The Lady Garden

Tea and Strumpets

Why’s it called The Lady Garden?

Depending on your perspective, you’re either thinking “that sounds a bit effeminate and fluffy” or “OMG WHAT?” Yes we know, yes we did it on purpose, yes you might need to do a quick google.

So what happened with X Other Site? You can tell me.

No, we’re not going to go into that. At all. We want to get on with what we’re doing now if that’s okay. We’ve all had every chance to say anything we wanted to elsewhere.

Where’s your Blogroll?

Under the cake. Okay, the cake is a lie. We don’t have a blogroll. We’ll frequently link to content on other sites in posts, and we hope you’ll find new and interesting places to read that way.

I don’t understand some of the terminology you’re using. Please can you explain [this] to me?

We’re not a 101 blog. Feel free to look around the internet. There’s  lots to read. Please try to do us the respect of googling something first before asking, because the odds are we’ve probably explained it a few times before and we’re a bit Done. Which isn’t to say newbies aren’t welcome. We all have things to learn, even us hoary old bitches. (Hoary/whorey. Take your pick.)

I think {this} is really important! Why don’t you talk about it?

Because we’re not your dancing monkeys. Because if you want to talk about it, you’re perfectly entitled to at your own place. Or to start one, if you want. Please keep stuff on topic, or we’ll confiscate the fairy bread, and that would be bad for everyone. Or, if you absolutely MUST say your piece, consider guest posting for us, which you can do by emailing us. You’ll get nothing but the admiration of your peers, because the fairy bread is entirely imaginary, but hey, that’s worth something isn’t it?

Some of your language and content is a bit full-on, isn’t it?

Yes. Pleased you noticed. The Lady Garden may not be a suitable environment for Delicate Flowers.

If it’s not for Delicate Flowers, why are you bothering with all those NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and trigger warnings?

We don’t want you getting into trouble with your boss, now, do we. And we don’t want people getting triggered. We’re happy to offend people’s sensibilities, but we don’t want to hurt people.

But I don’t know what you mean by trigger warning!!!

Sigh. Shall we google that for you?

Out of curiousity, have you ever considered putting a picture of a non-white woman in your sidebar?

      Fair question, Scar.

Basically, when we were setting up the site, we went through a bunch of different themes, some of which had headers, and different designs. We wanted arty/erotic/renaissancey depictions of women in a gardeny setting. At one point, I had about 40 images on my computer and the sidebar was made from those, based on what fitted, and looked ok.

Which, actually, is no excuse. I can’t remember if any if the pictures featured women of different ethnicities, off the top of my head. But i know some exist. In the next iteration of TLG, I’ll try to rectify it.

I think Scar has a very good point, it would be fantastic if the sidebar featured more a diverse depiction of ‘women’ 🙂

i agree – at the moment your sidebar represents everything that you are trying not to be
